Ways to Control the Population of the New York Rodent
There are various ways on how you can control the population and damages of the commensal Albany rodents. We hope that after reading this article, you will be able to determine the best solution for your rodent issues.

Habitat Modification
Modification of the rodent habitat around our premises will help in managing the population of the rodents. By removing the weeds and the debris around your house, you can eliminate the possible shelter of the rodents. There should be at least 3 ft area that is free from weed from your property. This will discourage the rodents from creating burrows. You may also place gravel around the foundation of your home. The gravel must be placed at about 1/2ft deep and width of 2ft. The property should be free from piles of woods and stones. Make it a habit to trim the branches of the tree that overhangs on your roof since this can be used by the rodent to access our attic. Harvest the vegetables and fruits in advance and dispose the fallen fruits in your yard appropriately. If your birdfeeder is attracting the attention of the rodent, consider removing it.

Construction
If you want to avoid the conflict with rodents, there are certain constructions that you can do to keep your home rodent-free. In order to keep them out of our house, you will have to understand the ability of the rodents. Some rodents like mice and rats are adept climbers, they can easily traverse vertical surfaces. They can jump at least 48 inches horizontally and they can squeeze their body to a hole that is about ½ inch in diameter.

To exclude them from your house, you should start by sealing all the holes using durable materials that are resistant against the gnawing of these creatures. You can use hardware cloth, sheet metals that are galvanized, and concretes. When looking for entry points, pay special attention to the utility holes such as the vents, dryers, electrical lines, and communication cable wires. You should also check your chimney and consider installing chimney cap. Try to introduce metal threshold to cover the gap on the door. Guards and physical barriers can also be placed in your house to prevent the rodents from climbing on your walls.

These are few ways on how you can create a rodent-proof house. You should also have an appropriate sanitation process to avoid attracting the interest of the pesky creatures.
